Message from President Paino

President Troy D. PainoDear Members of the UMW Community:

Diversity and inclusion are values the University of Mary Washington believes are integral to achieving institutional excellence. Our learning and working environments are enriched by diversity of thought, opinion, speech, experience and belief derived from many forms including race, ethnicity, color, national origin, gender, veteran status, age, religion, disability, political affiliation, marital status, and sexual orientation.  We adhere to our Statement of Community Values as fundamental to our ongoing efforts to increase access and inclusion, and to create a community that nurtures learning and growth for all its members.

Consequently, the University is committed to responding when it learns of incidents that might undermine these values or impede a safe learning and working environment for its members.  The Bias Offense and Incident Reporting Policy provides a safe haven for persons who feel harmed to report incidents and receive support.  At the same time, it also provides opportunities for the University to improve our campus environment.

We all share responsibility to help create the environment we strive to achieve. Each one of us needs to live up to these values and work to support our collective and individual successes.

Regards,

Troy D. Paino
President
University of Mary Washington
