About Us

To begin your journey to success at the University of Mary Washington you will need to develop a necessary understanding about the UMW community, academic and co-curricular expectations and opportunities, and ways to begin meeting your educational goals. The Student Transition Program (STP) will help introduce you to life as an Eagle, become familiar with campus resources, and develop best-success-practices to put your educational goals into action.

STP provides numerous comprehensive programs throughout the summer and academic year to support program participants as they enter UMW and transition through the first year experience:

  • Summer Residential Program- Five-weeks,  summer session II

  • Student Success Courses- Summer & Fall 1 credit course per semester

  • Academic Advising- Small group and individual guidance

  • STP Discovery- Support for students facing academic challenges

  • Second Year Launch- Establishing expectations for sophomore year (Spring semester)

This website aims to offer you detailed information about our programs as well as links to helpful resources.
